West Virginia High School Football - 2006 Update

Well, we are 8 weeks into the season here in WV and there are some standout teams and performances to talk about.

1. Is Paul McCoy really that good?
This is a kid playing on a single A team that has battled through the SSAC taking wins away, then giving them back because of a player they say was ineligable. Not him of course. The team has fought hard through that and in setting at 5-2, rankes 10th in class A. Yes this is our small school division but watching this kid, he could play with the big boys of AAA. Here is some of his stats:
  • Season: 165 carries, 1,859 yards, 25 TDs; TD catch, punt return TD
  • On pace to break the state rushing record, set just last year, in only 10 games.
2. Can anyone beat Parkersburg?
This season it seems like the Big Red are on a mission. I have seen this team play and they were not that impressive. However, they continue to be ranked #1 in AAA and win games. Last week knocking off Capital 17-6. They are led by RB Matt Lindamood who against Capital had 19 carries for 136 yards and a TD. On the season his stats are: 32 carries, 971 yards, 18 TDs; TD catch; six QB sacks

3. What happened to DJ Taylor?
Last season DJ was runner-up in the Kennedy Award, our state's top player award. This season he has been an enigma for Herbert Hoover. The Huskies are struggling to make it to the playoffs, setting at 4-3. They play AA #12 Bluefield tonight and a loss could keep them out of the playoffs after going 9-1 last year. Taylor has struggled along with his team as he has been keyed on all year long. He has not come close to putting up the type of numbers as last year but still has respectable stats for the season: 135 carries, 1,129 yards, 13 TDs; TD catch

My Top Five Kennedy Award Leaders:

1. Paul McCoy - Matewan
65 carries, 1,859 yards, 25 TDs; TD catch, punt return TD
2. Christian Edwards - Cabell Midlans 66 carries, 1,465 yards, 22 TDs; TD catch
3. Jordan Roberts - Scott 141 carries, 1,530 yards, 24 TDs; three TD catches
4. Kyle Allard - Fairmont Senior
103-of-169 passing, 1,596 yards, 18 TDs, four interceptions; three TD runs, interception return TD
5. Carter DeVault - East Fairmont 57-of-112 passing, 1,140 yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions

ARMCHAIRGM.COM Week 7 Poll

Ohio State once again held on to its undisputed first place spot in the AGMVC College Football Poll this week and Big Ten rival Michigan moved into the number two spot previously held by Florida.

The only team to leave the jumbled top ten was Notre Dame, California finally leaped over Clemson and nabbed the vacated 10-spot.

Newcomers to the Top 25 include Boston College at 20, Texas A&M at 23 and Pittsburgh returned to the list in the number 24 position.

Tulsa grabbed a few votes for the first time, most likely because of their appearence at the bottom of the BCS standings.

NL Champs - St. Lous Cardnials

Wow, what a series this was! The NY Mets weresuppose to blow the Cardinals away. Thanks to a great performance from their pitching staff St. Louis will be playing Detroit starting Saturday for the World Series Title.

Carlos Beltran just got caught looking to end the game by a rookie pitcher. This after he has owned the Cadinals in the playoffs with 7 lifetime HR in 14 games againts them.

Look for a great series. I look for the Tiger to win in 5 games to win the title for the first time since 1984.
